Ben is SIX!

And he is excited!

as in, he asked me to print out a calendar so he could color in a daily countdown with a crayon from the crayon holster he made.

chatting up birthday plans with Daddy.

Finally, all the squares were colored in, and the big day had arrived! We kicked off the morning with B-shaped pancakes and OJ.

Will, Katie Beth and I were able to join Ben and his classmates for lunch and pass out brownies that he and I made the day before. We also brought along Ben's favorite lunch - Subway with doritos and chocolate milk.

Once the school bell rang, Ben was quick to create a "birthday section" of the table and virtually camped-out there until dinner. Or brinner, as it were. By request, we enjoyed breakfast for dinner, with scrambled eggs, morningstar sausage links and a surprise birthday dessert of doughnuts!

And then it was time to get down to the business at hand.

After-presents cuddles

A little doughnut, a little skyping...

Then it was time for bed, and Daddy had hockey. I just settled down to finish, and by that I mean start, gluing 100 Legos onto Ben's 100-days of school shirt, when from upstairs I heard, "mommy? have you started my shirt? I'm worried about my shirt." My first instinct was to send him back to his bed. But his sweet little face (and slightly condescending tone) made me think twice, and I told him to come downstairs.

I am so glad I did. He talked my ear off for two hours about stuff I never can pull out of him any other time…who he likes to be partners with in class, who talks the most, who never talks, the last time he got in trouble there, etc. And of course, he told me more information about ninja turtles and legos than any person should really know.
Favorite birthday moment for mommy! I carried that big boy up to his room and turned out the light just as Tyler pulled into the garage, and Ben giggled big thinking we'd just gotten away with something so sneaky!

And then, there was the party. Ben has wanted a Chuck E. Cheese birthday party for as long as I can remember. This was the year I knew there would be no more delaying the inevitable - it was time to go see The Cheese.

By all accounts of our six-year old, it was epic.

back home, opening his loot, and hopefully feeling sufficiently celebrated!

Happy 6th birthday, Ben! How my baby is able to write sentences, do math, read words, ride a bike, load the dishwasher, is all beyond me. You are so patient and kind to your siblings, make us laugh all the time, and surprise us everyday with the things you know. We love you infinity plus one, buddy!

This is a very touching post. I don't even know you but you appeared on my screen with a click of the mouse and I read all about the birthday party for Ben. What a lucky little boy to be in your loving family.
