Will at 15 months

Wildman Will!

has six teeth on top, two on bottom
size 3 diaper, 12 - 18 month clothes, size 5 shoe
weighs 22 lbs
sleeps from 8 - 7ish every day, with a morning and afternoon nap of at least an hour each, usually longer. he is a dream sleeper.
can sign for "more", waves "bye" and give high fives, shake his head for "no" and nod for "yes"

still also does this for "no"

What Will eats:
milk
water
banana
berries
pineapple
yogurt
toast
bread
muffins
pancakes
cheese
soup
hot dogs
spaghetti
chick-fil-a nuggets (no other)
PB&J or honey sandwiches
turkey slices

What Will doesn't eat:
vegetables...green, orange, yellow, red - doesn't matter, he can sniff it out and will leave it untouched
beef
beans
eggs - haven't tried since he had a reaction at 9 months

What Will loves:
his siblings
balloons
balls
being outside
putting on shoes...anyone's
feeding himself
animals
dancing - shakes is arms and bounces, nods his head, and (after watching big sis) turns in circles

 Words Will says:
Daaaad
Mama - finally!
Beh - Katie Beth or Ben. He likes to yell it from the bottom of the stairs, can't imagine where he learned that.
saw - sock
sues - shoe
bah - ball
tuck - truck
booh - book
uh - up
hi
bur - bird (first word after "dada")

I love this one-year old and all the new things he does and says everyday. He may be a wild man sometimes, but mostly he still just melts my heart.

Why pay for a waterpark?

When you have one in your front yard?

So, at 13 months, Will is definitely walking!

...back and forth, over and over...

...smiling ear to ear.

Even while getting sprayed right in the eyes.

Only thing that made him mad was Mommy making him come inside.

even though I tried to make up!

First day of Kindergarten and Preschool

After a busy summer of traveling, swimming, day camps, VBS, and more swimming - it was time to get back in the school routine a few weeks ago!

Although our routine is a little different this year as we now have a KINDERGARTENER in the house!

outside of Westview Elementary school on Ben's phase-in day

We love the fact that Ben gets to walk to school. It's usually a family outing, if everyone is awake!
riled up for the real first day

walking and chatting with co-kindergartener and neighbor

So far, even with a classroom switch two weeks in, Ben is enjoying school...although he has commented that kindergarten is "all work, work, work." He is in Mrs. LeMaster's class, and of course, his favorite thing about it is snack time ;), and recess, but if you can dig deep, he says he really likes writing workshop where they create their own books. He's already started his extracurricular activities with an afterschool Art Class and the Good News Club!

Miss Katie Beth started M/W/F preschool a few weeks later, in her second year at Christ Academy with Mrs. Paula. Most days so far she says she wants to stay with me, but then doesn't even look back to wave goodbye once we arrive!

So, happy back-to-school! Here's to new shoes, crisp mornings and economy-size jars of peanut butter!

Happy First Birthday, Will!

Dear Will,
Happy birthday, baby boy!
The "best" of the bunch. Busy boys do not have patience to sit still with pillows.

....unless they can throw one.

It's a bittersweet time for your mama, Will, I'm not gonna lie. The last year and the nine months before have been kinda all about me and you, together...all the time. And now, you're one and on the cusp of some really exciting changes, and with them, independence. Mommy isn't sure she's ready.

I mean, look at how big you've gotten just the last two months!

Of course, you're not as big as you want to be.
and boy do you get mad when the big kids can go places you can't,

so having some outdoor entertainment has come in very handy this summer.

Of course, you can also find ways of entertaining yourself inside, like playing by or on the stairs,

digging rocks out of the fireplace,

and unrolling the aluminum foil from the sharp-edged box inside our not-babyproofed cabinets.

But mostly the biggest fun comes from getting caught up in the whirlwind of your siblings' antics!

They are still, for the most part, so kind and loving towards you and always looking out for your safety and needs. "Mommy! Will's on the stairs! Mommy! Will is stinky! Mommy! Will climbed on top of the toy box!"

From lazy mornings lounging in our pj's,

to busy days you so patiently put up with,
I am so glad you three have each other.

Your current tricks are waving, high fives, blowing kisses, hand motions for "twinkle twinkle" and also  the "sooo big!" exercise your siblings love to chant. All of which I have video of...don't forget to ask me about that. ;)

In other news, we made it to a year of breastfeeding! Not something you'll be terribly excited to read about in the future, but it's a first for me, and I am pretty proud. You nurse in the morning and at night, and usually once or twice during the day. But you also enjoy a refreshing cup of cold cow's milk too.

Helps to wash down, well, everything else!

Currently, your favorite foods are: bananas, pancakes, cheese, strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, pizza, beans, chicken (real and soy meat), spaghetti, mac n cheese and all the squeeze pouches. You'll still eat the pureed stuff I make too...but since self-feeding allows me to multi-task, that's what we mostly do.

Not-favorite foods: cantaloup, honey-do melon, vegetables of any kind (unless pureed and masked)

You are an amazing sleeper. You sleep from 8 p.m. - 7 a.m. every night, without waking (although I'm sure you will have a horrible night tonight since I just wrote that), then from 9:30 - 11 a.m. and again for another 2 or so hours in the afternoon.

It's fantastic, and I'll take that as long as I can get it! Which also happens to be your motto when it comes to sleep...

You have two teeth on the bottom, and some gums that are starting to look sore up top. You're not walking yet, although you've taken a few shuffling, baby steps in the last couple of days. As much as I want to keep you crawling and closer to the ground, it's always exciting to watch you learn something new, so I cheer you on with each wobbly little try.

And you're usually up for trying something...especially if it concerns water.
splashing in it

bathing in it

 swimming in it

gladiator noodle fighting outside of it

drinking it

and mostly just exploring in it. You are a water baby!

And as big as you are, I think I can call you "baby" for a while longer. Like maybe, forever.

We love you, Will. Your daddy says all the time, "aren't you so glad we have him?" and I laugh because words just can't even express the way you fill up my heart, just by being you.

Happy first birthday, Will - we pray for and await a lifetime more to come!
love,
Mommy
