A dino-mite 5th birthday party

This year, we celebrated at the Creative Discovery Museum. We are members and love it there, and they happened to have a traveling exhibit just open that's all about dinosaurs!
I love it when a theme just takes care of itself. :)

The morning of his party, Ben woke up and said, "so today is my real birthday day, right?"

And he had a blast.
He's literally blasting water here with his school buddy, Wyatt.

just a little ride on a triceratops with our neighborhood friends

Mr. Will didn't miss out on the action either!

My mom says he's concentrating really hard here on his craft project. I think he wants to eat that little hippo.

The CDM staff really takes care of everything, but we did bring in some munchies since it was lunchtime. We had dino-shaped sandwiches, fruity-pebble bars, pterodactyl claws (bugles),

herbivore treats (fruit salad), fossil crunch (puppy chow) and jurassic punch.
Simple, fun and kid friendly!

Party favors were dino masks, tattoos and a toy dinosaur of their choosing. However with lots of little ladies in attendance, we had to glam a few up with bracelets and hair extensions, of course!

Of course, there was face painting... here's Grandma and Camo Ben.

Fun party, easy cleanup, thrilled birthday boy = really great day!

Ben is FIVE!

Dear Ben,
Happy birthday to you!

You're a whole hand now!
You had been waiting for your birthday for roughly 364 days and were so excited it was finally here! The big day started out with passing through your streamer-decorated door while it was still dark out to find your favorite cereal (as requested) waiting for you atop your special-day plate.
two bowls of big bites and you were finally full
Then it was off to a fun-filled day at preschool where you got to share the cupcakes we made and decorated the day before.
sprinkles in action

After school and playing with our neighbors, Daddy got home in time to help you finish up a puzzle while I made the gourmet feast from the menu you planned out

(that would be dinosaur chicken nuggets, spiderman mac and cheese and some celery with peanut butter and salad to round things out)

followed by a happy-birthday serenade!

You are now our big boy
with an amazing imagination that creates the most fantastic plotlines of stories, games, and even your dreams at night,

a silly sense of humor that only you really "get",

and a super smart brain in that sweet head.
(first homework assignment!)

While you've gotten a little more "boyish" this year in a rough and tumble, potty humor, guns and swords kind of way, you still give us plenty of hugs, kisses, "I love you"s and cute conversations. And we'll take the occasional crawling into our bed in the middle of the night anytime!

We love you Ben!

Will is five months!

Dear Will,
Happy New Year!

Weight: 17 pounds
Diapers: size 3
Clothes: 3 - 6 months

I guess the biggest milestone during the last month was celebrating...
(although you did snooze through a large portion of it.)

You brought so much holiday cheer wherever went, including our Christmas journey to Grandma and Grandpa's, then Nana and Papa's where you got to cuddle with lots and lots of cousins.
 being precious

our three best gifts

Santa's little helper

checking out your present

You were a trooper with traveling and schedule changes and getting passed around by so many little helpers. And you seemed to do some growing up along the way, because when we got home you were game for trying your hand at a few new tricks!

Ringing in the new year with a spin in the jumperoo!
You like it so much that little blisters on your toes don't even slow you down...neither does the spinning  or double bounces Katie Beth likes to help you with!

Working on the tripod sit
Just have to keep a hand close by to catch that precious head!

You rolled over from your back to your belly for the first time at Daddy's office...on the desk...but I was right there to catch you and cheer your on. :)

Will, you learn so much every day and are so fun to watch as you start to really take everything in. People always are in awe of your calm and pleasant demeanor and huge smiles you are quick to pass out. Love love LOVE my sweet baby boy!
