Katie Beth is FOUR!

Our tiny dancer

...tornado

...princess

Katie Beth woke up on her birthday like most any other day...in our bed. We're working on that.

Once she made it to the kitchen, she found her chair all dressed up for the occasion and decided to do the same while eating her breakfast.

Ready to head to Mrs. Paula's 3-year old class

Snacktime party at school with her buds

Looking at her handmade card from Ben after school

Then it was time to dress for dinner. What 5-star hotspot requires a birthday girl to dine in her princess best? Cracker Barrel, as requested.

Home for presents and skyping with family!

The year of Frozen meant lots of loot from Arendale...courtesy of Nana and Papa

She really liked her makeup kit and goody box from Aunt Jess.

Oh, and then there was this.

We left for Disney World the next day, and surprised her with her own real princess makeover at the Bibbity Boppity Boutique that evening.
She chose her gown (Princess Anna's coronation dress) from a wall of beautiful, glittery choices and then her very own fairy godmothers in training took over - hair, makeup, nails, the works!

She was actually speechless during the process, but started to come to life at her photoshoot...and then owned. it. for the the rest of the trip.

Katie Beth,
At four, you are the definition of "emotion" - you show everything you feel, from the exasperated huffs and stomping feet to the sincere and unexpected compliments and hugs. You sing your heart out to your favorite songs and make up ones about Jesus and Zoe. You spell your whole name. You adore Ben and mother Will. You love babies and dogs, swimming and dress up. You can create complicated plot lines among handfuls of crayons or chicken nuggets and entertain yourself  endlessly. You would rather play than clean and somehow messes just seem to generate themselves around you...I can relate. You are so fun and so hard and so loving and so so loved. I'm proud of you, sister...happy birthday!

Wildman Will at 19 months

As one-year olds tend to do, Will is growing up right before our eyes. Every day he does or says something that reminds me our baby is quickly becoming a boy.

Cute things he does:
Cartwheels/sommersaults - this is basically where he dives, face-first, to the floor, then rolls to his side and laughs
spins until he's dizzy and falls over
Looks at books for long periods of time
Pokes me in the eyes and ears, etc. while reciting all the body parts he knows
Sings along to my lullaby, Jesus Loves Me, and Let it Go ;)
Growls like a monster

(and takes selfies, apparently)

Cute things he says:
"I see you!" from top of the stairs or around the corner
"Knock, knock." [who's there?] "Boo!"
"I'm funny!"
Super friendly and says hi and bye to people in the store, on sidewalks.
"Mouse!" (Mickey Mouseclubhouse) "Hi Tootles!"
"Backpack, backpack!" (anytime he sees Dora.)
"I stinky. I pooooped."
"Tookie, rookie!" when I pull into the Publix parking lot since we get a free cookie every time we shop.
"Yook, yook!" When he's showing me something...most recently his stamped foot from Little Gym

Not cute things:
Throwing tantrums because 1. he's not getting what he wants, 2. he is getting what he wants, but not in the "right way" (wrong cup, not fast enough)
Yelling "nooooo" and shaking his head emphatically
Yelling "mine!" and grabbing the possession
Not letting anyone else but me get him up in the morning without a fight

Things he loves:
Dogs
Balls
Balloons
Bubbles
Bikes
Trucks
Trains
My phone
Daddy coming home from work
Getting tickled
Being Katie Beth's minion/cohert
Going "side" (outside) - he runs to put on his "soos" anytime someone heads for the door

(first time painting)

Foods he eat (this is a comprehensive, all-inclusive, don't-feed-him-anything-else list):
Pancakes
Hot dogs
Turkey
Cheese
Berries
Grapes
Apple slices
Goldfish
Mac n Cheese
Tortellini/spaghetti (most of the time)
PB sandwiches
Toast
Applesauce
Yogurt
Bananas
Cereal
Oatmeal
Cakes, cookies, muffins
"keen" (ice cream)

He still is a wonderful sleeper - from 8 at night til around 7 a.m. - never wakes in between...wouldn't know that was a luxury if it weren't for his big sis! And we're working on getting to one nap a day, but sometimes a guy has to have a morning snooze too.

From running through the house, climbing out of his highchair, driving the kids' tractor, and fighting for "his right" among the others, this guy is starting to come into his own. And while that presents some challenges, like going to timeout for the first time after chucking food off his tray, we are so thankful for this little chunk of love!

We love you, Wildman Will!

Ben is SIX!

And he is excited!

as in, he asked me to print out a calendar so he could color in a daily countdown with a crayon from the crayon holster he made.

chatting up birthday plans with Daddy.

Finally, all the squares were colored in, and the big day had arrived! We kicked off the morning with B-shaped pancakes and OJ.

Will, Katie Beth and I were able to join Ben and his classmates for lunch and pass out brownies that he and I made the day before. We also brought along Ben's favorite lunch - Subway with doritos and chocolate milk.

Once the school bell rang, Ben was quick to create a "birthday section" of the table and virtually camped-out there until dinner. Or brinner, as it were. By request, we enjoyed breakfast for dinner, with scrambled eggs, morningstar sausage links and a surprise birthday dessert of doughnuts!

And then it was time to get down to the business at hand.

After-presents cuddles

A little doughnut, a little skyping...

Then it was time for bed, and Daddy had hockey. I just settled down to finish, and by that I mean start, gluing 100 Legos onto Ben's 100-days of school shirt, when from upstairs I heard, "mommy? have you started my shirt? I'm worried about my shirt." My first instinct was to send him back to his bed. But his sweet little face (and slightly condescending tone) made me think twice, and I told him to come downstairs.

I am so glad I did. He talked my ear off for two hours about stuff I never can pull out of him any other time…who he likes to be partners with in class, who talks the most, who never talks, the last time he got in trouble there, etc. And of course, he told me more information about ninja turtles and legos than any person should really know.
Favorite birthday moment for mommy! I carried that big boy up to his room and turned out the light just as Tyler pulled into the garage, and Ben giggled big thinking we'd just gotten away with something so sneaky!

And then, there was the party. Ben has wanted a Chuck E. Cheese birthday party for as long as I can remember. This was the year I knew there would be no more delaying the inevitable - it was time to go see The Cheese.

By all accounts of our six-year old, it was epic.

back home, opening his loot, and hopefully feeling sufficiently celebrated!

Happy 6th birthday, Ben! How my baby is able to write sentences, do math, read words, ride a bike, load the dishwasher, is all beyond me. You are so patient and kind to your siblings, make us laugh all the time, and surprise us everyday with the things you know. We love you infinity plus one, buddy!
