Tyler grew up in Canada, where hockey is revered the same (fanatical) way as college football is here in SEC territory. His following of the game has all but died after so many years spent in the South, not even able to find the Stanley Cup final games on even one channel at Buffalo Wild Wings...that was a sad night. But his love for it never will, as demonstrated last Sunday when he put his thesis-preparation on hold, drew the curtains closed, pulled on his "lucky" jersey, settled into the couch with some hot wings, and turned the volume up, WAY UP, to watch Team Canada take down Team USA in the Olympic final game.We had taped the game so that Tyler would be home and Ben would be awake, and we all had fun cheering...

...until Tyler yelled so loud that Ben got scared, then I got bored, and so he and I set off to do something a little more in line with our Southern roots...make biscuits from scratch! Back story is that I'd started a pot roast not realizing there wasn't any cornbread mix in the house, and desperate times call for desperate measures (ie: me cooking anything from scratch)!
But we had lots of fun mixing and patting ("flat hands, Ben. Don't just poke it.") and rolling and cutting.

I just wish I had a picture of the golden, fluffy, buttery goodness that greeted us when we opened the oven. But that would mean replacing the pasty-white, flat disappoints that taunted us instead. Or as Ben shrieked in surprised delight, "tutties!" (cookies).
If only that's how they tasted....
But it was a great way to spend the afternoon together, shouting back and forth from the living room to kitchen and trying to keep my mouth shut about the impending victory I'd learned of from Facebook status updates and text messages that he refused to open. :)
Oh-so proud of Canada! Well played indeed.

Yikes, glad that was in Mommy's kitchen! Looks like Ben's fascination with baking continues!
Love the apron, and you don't even look pregnant in that picture! Looks like a fun day, and I hear you about biscuit baking. There's really just no good reason to break away from Pillsbury, but I'm impressed that you tried.
As for me and my household, we relied on the Facebook status updates to tell us who won... and that there was a hockey game on TV. Glad Team Canada made Tyler's thesis break worth it for him!
