Weekend with Grandma and Grandpa

My parents drove down from Nashville this weekend for a Ben fix and can't believe how much he's grown since Easter. His head is apparently a lot bigger (that growing brain, you know) and his vocabulary is quite extensive! He is also starting to roll to the side and is holding that big old head of his up like it's a feather. We had a fun day of playing with Ben, bbq and pie, looking at Ben, taking the dogs to the park, talking about Ben, going out for pizza, cuddling Ben...you get the idea!

Three months old!

"Holy cow! I'm three-months old! Where does the time go?"

Today marks three months since our lives were changed forever by the birth of our son. Life is so dramatically different - the things I think about, pray for, get excited over are mostly things that weren't even on my radar three months ago. And as you can tell, Tyler and I are enamored with this tiny person who melts our hearts with one gummy smile, amazes us with his strong legs that are ready to start walking and entertains us with a language all his own.

A cribside premonition

There was a moment last week, a moment around 4:30 a.m. to be exact, that a wave of fear washed over me. The monitor let me know that Ben had decided to start the day extra early, so I stumbled into his room hoping to convince him otherwise. Peering into his crib, I saw that he had - once again - broken free from his Kidpotomus Swaddler blanket. This particular morning, instead of an arm flailing above his head, however, both were free, as were his legs that he was pumping into the air with wild abandon. For a second, I wanted to be frustrated and disappointed that this supposedly proven sleep method was failing for my son. But then his wide eyes met mine and he squealed with glee; and I had to laugh. Happiness turned to the previously mentioned fear, however, when I realized that I'm really in for it with this one. From the swaddle escaping, to how he goes to sleep in the middle of the crib and wakes up pressed against the railing, and the constant jumping he likes to do in my lap, our time with our cuddly, sleepy bundle will all-too-soon be replaced with a full-throttle boy who's life's mission will be to run me ragged! Hopefully the energy will come, but if not, at least I'll be able to drink caffeine again by then!

"Hey Mom and Dad - swaddle this!"

Other things that have been keeping us busy lately:

These rings are no match for my brute strength.
(This was the very first time he grasped a toy. There's a chance that it only happened b/c the ring got caught in the crossfire of his ever-moving arms and hands, but still...it was a milestone!)

Ten-week slideshow

Just some recent happenings around home. Ben weighed in over the weekend at 16-whopping pounds! Granted, he had a sweater jumper on, but still. Our 10-week old has doubled his birthweight. I'm afraid of what's to come!

Our sideshow dog

If you've met our dog, Zoe, you've also met her tongue. People laugh and point and take pictures of her all the time - partly because she is a pretty girl, but also b/c her tongue is three times too big for her mouth! We're used to it by now, but every once in a while, that thing does something that even I think is blog-worthy.
How lazy are you if you can't even hold your tongue in your mouth?!
